My girls were born two years and one day apart and we celebrated their birthdays this weekend. I love celebrating my kids... they're pretty awesome. I think I have as much fun just sitting back and reflecting on them throughout the day as they do celebrating with cake and presents! So, in honor of my two birthday girls, some thoughts on the girls...
Lauren. Lauren is so sweet and affectionate. She's always dropping kisses on you at the most unexpected times. Lauren is a snuggler and will sink into you and wrap her little arms tight around your neck. It's the best feeling in the world. She is very trusting and gives her heart willingly and will soak up all the love you send her way. She's also very sensitive and wears her heart on her sleeve. She can be quick to tears, but just as quick to forgive and holds no grudges. She's very smart and she too is an observer like Grace, taking everything in. She's is quiet and extraordinarily patient for a four year old. My favorite Lauren moments are dancing in the kitchen with her, music turned up as loud as it will go, Lauren laughing and twirling... it's pretty magical.
I love my girls. My prayer for them is that they grow up strong and confident, knowing and loving who they are... and I think they're on their way.
Grace. Grace amazes me with her self-awareness and confidence. I love that she lives without apology, she is who she is and that's that. It's not abrasive, she's very approachable, she just has this quiet confidence about her and she knows and likes who she is. She is so kind and loving, but a little bit guarded. She's careful about who she gives her heart to, but if she does, she gives it fully and loves fiercely. She's always watching and learning, and then assimilating it into her own world in her own way. She colors fast and furious with lots of colors, and maybe that's age appropriate, but I love to see her pictures and these rainbow worlds she creates. My favorite Grace moments are tucking her in at night. Some nights she draws out our conversations and I know she just loves these private moments when it's just me and her, it's like stolen moments of time. I love indulging her in those moments and letting her know that even though it gets busy sometimes, she still means all the world to me.
