You know what makes me happy?
A bowl of old fashioned oats with peanut butter and blueberries. Ellamae's stinky blanket. When my stove, microwave, and coffee maker clocks are perfectly in sync. Vacuum cleaner marks on a freshly vacuumed carpet. Driving with the eco feature on and seeing my gas mileage in the "green zone". Watching the total on my grocery bill go down after they scan my Kroger card.
Flip flops. The smell of clean laundry. A clean sink at the end of the day before I go to bed. Air drying my hair. Tul black fine tip gel pens (try them, they're amazing). Room temperature water. Fuzzy blankets. Digital watches that show the seconds. My bed after a 12 hour midnight shift. Sleeping when it's raining outside.
The smell of my parents' house. When all the socks in one load have matches. Over-sized hoodies. When it rains enough that I don't have to worry about watering the flowers. Sleeping in the car. "No turn on red" signs - takes all the pressure off. Flossing with my water pick, so awesome. Being able to fall asleep in ten minutes. Kindness, in any form.
Mail time. Christmas lights at any time of the year. Birthdays. Filling up every single page of a journal. A good sneeze. A fresh pair of contact lenses. The sound my shoes make when running on a dirt road. When my dog sploots (look it up, it's a real thing). Nicknames. A good vein and an 18 gauge. Ottomans. Second winds. Even numbers.
When all four sets of my scrubs are clean at the same time. A good belly laugh. The last day of my period (just keeping it real). My “Summer 2013” and “Untitled” playlists. My job. Broken in Dansko shoes. Littman stethoscopes. Parking straight and in the middle of the two lines. Amazon Prime. Pajama days and movie nights. The sound of the fan at bedtime. Chapstick. T-shirts and jeans.
It’s the little things.
